Australia — home to many tanned and blonde blokes and sheilas. Who enjoy nothing more than crackin’ a cold one on bondi beach- Excuse me! This is not really the country we are nowadays.
Why are we ignoring the fact that Australia has become a majority migrant nation? With more than 26% of the population born overseas - with 200 countries!
Topping the list are England (927,490), India (673,352), China (549,618), New Zealand (530,492), and Philippines (293,892). That’s nearly 7.5 million multicultural Australians!
And how about language? Australian homes combined are using over 300 languages - With the highest being Mandarin (2.7%), Arabic (1.4%), Vietnamese (1.3%), Cantonese (1.2%) and Punjabi (0.9%).
It is important to recognize and celebrate the range of cultures that exist in Australia! We also cannot forget our Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders who have increased by 25% since 2016 - adding up to more than 800,000 people.
Australia is more than some white blokes who enjoy sunny beaches. Australia should be perceived as the multi-cultural nation it is.
